My Trash to Treasure Bulletin Board (Seasons Tree)

When you homeschool in small space like us, you have to think of creative ways to use space. This week we have been getting our homeschool space ready for our first day which is August 17th. Some of our purchased curriculum arrived earlier this month and after opening the box we were left with this...packing material.

Rather then throw away the packing material (brown paper) I decided to reuse it to make a large tree for our bulletin board.
We crumbled the paper more so that my tree could have a bark look to it. (I did not have any problem getting the help of my boys to crumble paper). After the boys finished crumbling the paper, I laided the paper out to form a tree shape. The paper was easy to work with and better than paper grocery bags which we have used in the past for other crafts. We cut smaller pieces to from branches for the tree and taped them to the door.
We had left over craps of green construction paper so we crumbled them to give the tree dimensional look for the leaves. I could have made individual leaves which is more time consuming but I have plans to make some fall leaves for October to decorate our Bulletin board tree.
We made some apples out of scraps of paper, colored them with crayon and added them to the tree, we even placed a bird in the tree too. I drew some cute children, colored them and laminated them. They were placed at the bottom of the tree.
I made some child faces and placed them around the tree. Now we will have this Bulletin Board tree hung through the year. My plan is to change the tree along with the seasons so that when it is Fall, our tree will have leaves of red, orange, yellow and brown. In winter, no leaves but snow on the bark and ground, and come Spring, I'll have blossoms on the tree and in summer a green tree shading the children. I have going to make the children's clothing change too with the seasons. This will help my preschooler understand the seasons.

You are so very creative - it's a great idea to use the space and leftover materials.

Thanks. I think it will show the boys the seasons by changing our tree from season to season. I am thinking of ideas on how our Bulletin Board tree will look in the Fall (Months of October to November).

This is gorgeous Sandra, well done. Also I have emailed you a few times about linking to your blog and gaining permission to use images. I'mnot sure you have received the emails though?

What a great job! Back when I taught I did something similar on the wall and every time one of the kids finished reading a book, we would put the name of the book and author on a leaf and put it up on the tree. They loved it!

What a clever idea! I have a pile of the same brown packing paper waiting to be taken to recycling, but now I might have to save it. My husband will be thrilled. ; )
